You Can Live For Free In This Modern Farmhouse In Sicily

Imagine living in a modern farmhouse in Sicily, Italy, drinking Italian wine, eating traditional food, and leaving everyday chores behind. We all want to take some time off and move to the island, leaving everyday life behind for a little while and getting involved in something we have never done before.

This Airbnb offer is an excellent opportunity if you would like to move to the village and escape the everyday grind in search of peace and Italy’s tradition, food, and wine.

Imagine sitting on the porch of a modern farmhouse on a hill, enjoying your favorite Italian cuisine and drinking wine with new friends! That would be fantastic, and this is what we will be talking about in today’s blog post! Maybe you will be the one who qualifies for ‘The 1 Euro House’ for escaping reality for some time!

What Is The 1 Euro House?

What Is The 1 Euro House?

The story is about “The 1 Euro House” project, organized by Airbnb. To make this dream come true, you have to qualify for the project. The person who qualifies for the project will be living in the renovated modern farmhouse in the Sambuca village, located in the rural part of Sicily, Italy, rent-free!

The selectee has to list one room of the modern farmhouse on Airbnb. Suppose you are the lucky one to be selected. In that case, you will have the opportunity to attend the mentorship program to learn the Italian language and the cultural heritage of Italy.

The 1 Euro House project is located in Sambuca, a small rural village with around 6000 people. It is located about 80km south of Palermo, a popular tourist destination in Sicily. It was awarded “the most beautiful Italian Village” in 2016, and it is a perfect example of southern Italian heritage.

Why Is It Called ‘The 1 Euro Project’

Why Is It Called 'The 1 Euro Project'

Sambuca town and Airbnb chose the name because it is one of the houses owned by the city that they could sell for one euro. As a result of the city’s efforts to rejuvenate their community and promote cultural roots, these homes have become symbols of their actions.

This modern farmhouse can accommodate six people; two adults and two children, and up to 2 Airbnb guests.

How The Project Will Be Organized

How The Project Will Be Organized

Sambuca flights will be arranged and paid for by Airbnb; the selected individual must arrive by 30th June 2022. In Sambuca, the appointee must host for at least three months and may travel back home during the stay but must return to Sambuca to host the entire nine-month program. The selected person can have help from the mentor, who they chose while hosting the modern farmhouse.

During the first month in Sambuca, the selectee will attend the mentorship program, as we mentioned earlier. It will consist of learning how to cook at four classes held by the local mentor. You will also be learning the Italian language. As long as you are in The 1 Euro House, you will be allowed to work your job if it complies with the origin country laws.

Living In The Modern Farmhouse

Living In The Modern Farmhouse

Though living in The 1 Euro House is a rent-free living, the participant must pay the taxes for the hosting activities and the ordinary and extraordinary costs of living. As we mentioned earlier, Airbnb will pay the travel fees, but the participant will pay the living fees as if they were living at their home! The great thing is that the host doesn’t have to pay for the rent and can keep all the money they make during the room hosting.

The 1 Euro House Design

The house is a modern farmhouse styled in Italian interior design style with a modern touch combined with a traditional one. There are plenty of minimal details, arches, and colors combined with the style that reminds of Japandi. While located in the Sambuca village, where the houses are in the Sicilian style, this modern farmhouse is slightly different. Still, it keeps a sort of Italy in it.
